Ricciardi Will Continue to Oversee RESCON Operations While Adding Responsibilities with the US Army

Fort Jackson, SC – Brig. Gen. Joseph A. Ricciardi, of Valparaiso, Indiana, assumed command of the Army Reserve’s 81st Readiness Division (RD) located on Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. Ricciardi most recently was the deputy commanding general for support of the 81st Readiness Division, which is the Geographic Command for nine southeastern states, as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and is responsible for ensuring units and Soldiers are prepared to deploy and fight multi-domain operations and meet current and future Combatant Command Force requirements.

Together with the great Soldiers and Civilians of the Wildcat Division, we look forward to continuing the momentum behind the transformative initiatives that Maj. Gen. Jones started and to set the conditions for a smooth transition with the inbound commanding general.”

Ricciardi assumed command from Maj. Gen. Kenneth D. Jones in a ceremony Thursday. Jones retired after nearly 40 years of service. He will serve in the position for the interim until the Army names a new commanding general.

Ricciardi commissioned in 1990 following his graduation from the U. S. Military Academy at West Point. He earned a master’s degree from Perdue University and a Doctorate from Benedictine University. He is a graduate of numerous military courses including: Engineer Basic and Advanced courses, Command and General Staff College, and the United States War College. He began his career with the 54th Engineer Company in Germany and subsequently commanded at the company, battalion, and brigade levels. Since 2002, he has spent over 35 months deployed to Southwest Asia participating in Operation Enduring Freedom (2002-2003), Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004), and Operation Enduring Freedom (2010-2011).

His awards and decorations include: Legion of Merit Medal, Bronze Star Medals, Meritorious Service Medals, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medals, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.

In his civilian career, Ricciardi serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Boston-based RESCON Restoration & Construction. Ricciardi and his wife Kelly reside in Valparaiso, Indiana, along with their two children, Giuesppe and Giavanna.
